Brothers
Fish and Chips Takeaway
Date of consumption: 1st July 2026
Score: 8/10

I arrived home from Switzerland on 1st July feeling very tired and drained. I had a long night on the Monday, watching Tezos switch between protocols. I’d also spent hours on airplanes and trains. Who knows which caused it. Anyway, my usual low-carb diet was put on hold and I ordered fish and chips from Just Eat. For a change, I tried Brothers.
I’ve eaten from Brothers before and they are above average. I ordered the large cod, regular chips and mushy peas. This cost £23.57 including service charge and delivery charge. The food itself was £19.60. This is cheaper than my previous review where I ranted about price.
The cod was huge and the portion of chips was also large. The chips could have been a bit crisper outside and maybe softer inside. The cod was not particularly thick, but it was flaky. Although the piece of fish was long, it was rather flat. It was also a bit dry in places. We used to have a fish restaurant in Grays that served huge flaky pieces of cod, but sadly it shut during COVID. The peas were standard. That all said, there was nothing wrong with it. I couldn’t finish the chips because there were too many.
I’ve knocked off a couple of marks for thickness of fish and crispness of chips, but it’s not a disaster. I would order from there again.
