My travel plans took me to Switzerland at the end of June. I went to Geneva to see a friend, then took the train to Zug. Early on Saturday morning, I found myself in Gatwick North terminal with 30 minutes to spare. Actually, as it happened I had 2 further hours to spare, but that is another story. One to do with thunderstorms.

I was looking for breakfast at 6:45 in the morning. The obvious place to go is the Breakfast Club, but there was a queue and it was not moving. The Brewdog bar was open but there weren’t many people in it. Most die-hard drinkers head to the Wetherspoons at an airport out of loyalty. Anyway, there was a full English on the menu, so I thought I’d give it a go.

I had to order the food via an app. I know I’m Generation X, but I don’t like ordering on an app. Often there’s no way to express personal preferences. And most of the time, they want personal information like an e-mail address. Anyway, I ordered breakfast and five minutes later it arrived.

The breakfast cost £16.95. It came with bacon, sausages, scrambled eggs, spicy beans, hash browns, mushrooms and sour dough toast. The speed of arrival inevitably meant that it wasn’t cooked from scratch. The toast was cold. The hash browns were a bit soggy. The scrambled eggs were clearly catered ones. They probably had some cornflour in to help keep them on the hot plate. The bacon and sausages were nice. If I had to guess, I’d say the sausage was beef or a mix. The beans were spicy and we could debate whether they should be or not.

Would I go back there? Well, if I was in Gatwick North maybe. But I would probably try somewhere else. The price wasn’t too bad for an airport, but I didn’t have a drink. Next time I will go to the Breakfast Club. This one gets a 2/3. If it had been fresher and hotter it could have got a 3.
